What is the Eclipse Awards?
Well, just like it's real life counterpart, which is also called the Eclipse Awards, it's a series of awards given to those who outshine the rest. There are catergories for horses, jockeys, trainers, farms and even the media gets some form of award as well for best article.
How is the voting process done?
Usually, we take what is nominated and we discuss them the four individuals that are chosen that year to participate. After a brief discussion, the vote is made on who each thinks should deserve the award. If there is a tie, which there has been in the past, we tend to ask either two if they'd like to change their vote. Or, if there is no change -- it is rare but both individuals get awarded. If two votes go for one thing and the other two are totally different from each other, the two votes will award the individual the 'award'.
Who is the ones voting?
Myself, mostly as a moderator but also because I'm not only the President of the FJC but also the President of the racetrack. From there I usually will ask a retired trainer, jockey and a past horse that has won one of the awards. That way, we get a generally different view point on all accounts.
How does one become nominated?
Two ways. Either you are nominated by the general public by which they can fill out a form below to do so. OR, if you won what is considered a 'qualifying race'. A list of below, but some may be added over time.
